Some people say that professional workers such as doctors, nurses, and teachers who make greater contributions to the society should be paid more than those people in the fields of sports and entertainment. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  Introduction

With the outbreak of pandemics, more contributions of professionals such as doctors, nurses, and teachers have been witnessed by the public. Naturally, some propose that workers in aforementioned domains deserve higher salaries than those engaged in sports and entertainment do. Personally, I disagree with this proposal.

   professional n.

  aforementioned adj.

  deserve vt. 值得

  Body 1

Irrefutably, workers with expertise do guarantee the basic survival of the public and conduce to the social soundness. Knowledgeable teachers, having made every effort to refine their knowledge and obtain relevant qualification, impart both theories and moral values to younger generations, which thus nurtures students into talents and injects vitality into all walks of life to ensure fundamental social development. Hospital staff, be they doctors or nurses, negotiate every impediment to save people’s lives by researching non-stop remedies and therapies or even sometimes risking their own lives. So many touching stories about them have been reported via media and even edited into documentaries during the impacts of COVID-19. Affirming their efforts and contributions, government has already issued certain policies to subsidize workers in those domains.

   refine vt. 提炼

  impart sth. to sb.

  nurture vt. 培养

  Ø inject vitality into 注入活力

  Body 2

However, I would also like to highlight that celebrities in sports and entertainment in fact play an equally essential role in another way. To illustrate, some may argue that it is unfair for sportsmen to be better paid, since they do not provide vital services. Football players, for example, earn enormous salaries by simply kicking a ball. However, such arguments can hold no water, as sports stars not only have dedicated hours of practice to developing their fitness and skills and often struggle with irreversible diseases in their later life but also have raised the fame of their nations by standing out in international games like Olympics. Regarding stars in entertainment, it is their works – movies, shows, or songs – that spice up people’s life especially during the period of lockdown, thus satisfying viewers’ spiritual demands.

   hold no water 站不住脚

   irreversible adj.

   spice up v.

  lockdown n. 封城

04、In conclusion, contributions of neither professional workers nor staff in sports and entertainment should be ignored. Since different jobs are merely the results of social division of labour, individuals’ salaries, regardless of which domain they work in, should only hinge on their performance in their own fields
