Question

Some people believe that in the future, countries will stop producing paper money and coins, and people will just use electronic forms of payment, such as credit cards. Others believe countries will always produce coins and paper money for those who wish to use them. Which do you think is true? Use details and examples in your response.

From my perspective, I believe that in the future, countries will stop producing paper money and coins.

Firstly, electronic payment offers unparalleled convenience and efficiency. With credit cards or mobile payment apps, people can complete transactions anytime, anywhere. For example, in my country, I can pay with my phone for almost everything. All it takes is a few taps to pay.

Secondly, the development of technology is a strong driving force. Now, electronic payment systems are becoming more and more sophisticated, which makes electronic payment not only easy but also safe. I believe that, because of the technological progress, paper money and coins will be a thing of the past.

unparalleled /ʌnˈpærəleld/ adj.

transaction /ˈtrænzækʃn/ n.

a strong driving force

sophisticated /səˈfɪstɪkeɪtɪd/ adj.

a thing of the past

The way I see it, it's more likely that countries will stop making paper money and coins in the future.

The main reason is related to economic costs. The production of paper money involves expenses for paper and printing; coins require raw materials like metals. Also, transporting and managing cash across the country is money-consuming. In contrast, electronic payment systems have relatively low operational costs.

Moreover, from an environmental perspective, electronic payment is more eco-friendly. However, the production of paper money consumes a large amount of paper, which means cutting down lots of trees. Coin production uses metals, and the mining and processing of these metals have a negative impact on the environment.

the way I see it 依我之见

raw material 原材料

money-consuming 耗钱的

operational /ˈɒpəˈreɪʃənl/ adj.

from a/an…perspective 从…

from an environmental perspective

eco-friendly /ˈiːkəʊ ˈfrendli/ adj.

have a positive/negative impact on 对…

As for me, I think countries will always produce coins and paper money.

To start with, the spread of technology isn't the same everywhere. In some remote areas or among some groups, electronic payment might not be so well-developed. For example, in rural areas with bad internet, people can't easily use mobile payment. And some elderly people may f ind it hard to get used to new electronic ways.

Secondly, in special situations like natural disasters, electronic payment won't work. When there's no power or the network is down, people can't pay with cards or phones. At this time, paper money and coins become indispensable. They can be used to buy necessary things like food and water.

well-developed /'weldi'veləpt/ adj.

get used to 习惯于

the network is down 网络连接断开

indispensable /ˌɪndɪˈspensəbl/ adj.
