They want to solve the major problem of air pollution mainly caused by the exhaust gas from the cars. And in most western European countries, public transportation is strongly recommended for city travelers. These include subway, trains, buses and even free-rented bicycles. The city of Paris provides subway passengers free bicycles to connect their journey between subway stops. They hope to encourage people to use the subway and to limit the moving cars on the ground. If more cities do the same, then, it won’t surprise me to find much fewer cars in 20 years time.
