  Some people say job satisfaction is more important than jobsecurity, while others think people can not always expect enjoyment in jobs and working permanently is more important.

  Discuss both these views and gives your own opinion.

  Rarely is it the case today that one would stick to a job for a lifetime. Unlike our parents, who would consider stability the most important feature of a career, we tend to appreciate something different.

  To the majority of young people today, Job satisfaction, or, in another word, happiness, has become the prior concern when seeking a job. Their major argument is based upon the idea that the ultimate goal of working is to help achieve better lives. But recent studies have revealed that boredom, hostility, stress and frustration in work places can lead to physical and mental diseases, ruining our lives. So if we work eventually to live a better life, it makes no sense to do a job, no matter how well-paid it is, that we dislike.

  This attitude is being criticized by another group of old-schools who still highly value job security. First of all, they point out, that work is only a part of life, ergo disappointments from work would not affect life thatmuch. Moreover, a good life is fundamentally depending on the food on the table and the cash in the pocket. In this sense, job security means being free from worries about the basic needs and being able to really enjoy life.

  Personally, I tend to side with the youngsters in this argumentation because the other side of the debate fails to notice a simple fact that the competitions in work places has grown to be ridiculously fierce, so much so that no job is “secured” anymore. In addition to that, the business world is changing really fast today, large businesses such as NOKIA might go bankrupted in a matter of few days, and people who have earned “permanent” positions in these companies would end up with nothing.

  Personally, I tend to side with the old-schools in this dispute because the other side’s argument is grounded upon a faulty premise that “another” job would be better. Truly, a new job might by all means seem appealingcomparing to the old one at first, but sooner or later the defects would reveal themselves. That means, one way or another, one would have to put up with some of the demerits that he or she does not feel quite happy with. So, instead of keeping looking for a “better” job, one should try to deal with the defects and solve the problems once and for all.

  In conclusion,…
