　　如何使用简单的材料达到托福分数的目的？我的学生们在准备托福考试的时候都会有一些比较“难”回答的问题，比如：我现在还听不太懂TPO里面的听力，一直听TPO是不是浪费时间?

　　又或者：老师，论据总是用这种“人工的“例证会不会太low?

　　再或者：老师老师，我能举数字例子吗?怎么举才够concrete够convincing呢?

　　其实，英语学习的素材现在铺天盖地，从传统书店里面的辅导书到微信一搜就有的公众号，每天都有大量的英语文字呈现。

　　关键问题并不是没有素材，而是，你真的用好了素材吗?

　　我举个特别简单的例子，VOA大家肯定都听过，我也是从初中就开始坚持听Special English的节目，到高中左右几乎听标准语速的VOA节目已经不怎么成问题了，纯正的美语发音和学科知识是VOA的亮点，这也符合托福的考试思路，题型的多样化和北美校园生活的能力。

　　这里选取的是2016年5月3号的一篇Report：

　　Housing costs are rising in northern California because of a small supply of rental apartments and growing demand for them by technology workers.

　　A strong economy and the technology industry have been blamed for a housing crisis in the San Francisco Bay Area.

　　The industry pays high wages to many of its workers. Because the area is home to many high-tech companies, the workers are willing to pay more for housing.

　　The average cost for a one-bedroom rental apartment in San Francisco is nearly $3,590 a month, according to the website Zumper. Prices are similar in many nearby communities.

　　That rent is even higher than New York City, the second-most costly market in the United States. Zumper reported this month that the average rent in New York for a one-bedroom apartment was $3,340.

　　有木有觉得语速很亲切很柔和?比之托福听力120-150词每分钟的语速，这显然要慢，课时千万不要小看他，中间的一些单词你可不能辨别清楚。

　　那怎么应用到输出的部分(口语和写作)中呢?

　　我们来看两道口语真题：

　　Which do you prefer? A job in a distant city with a high salary, or a job in your current city with a lower salary.

　　One of your friends has just moved to a new city. What suggestions do you have to help him fit in? Please explain your opinion in details.

　　两道题目的特征都是关于urban life的，去北美留学，租房子是大家都头疼的问题，谁不想住得好又不费钱呢?那么答案的思路就来了，以前一题为例：

　　I would like to take a position with a high salary even if I have to move to somewhere distant.

　　Firstly, a job with decent payment is needed to pay for the rent. I really want an apartment near my working place so that I don’t have to waste a lot of time commuting and I can take more rest after work. However, the area where my apartment is located can be home to many big companies whose workers are willing to pay more for housing; therefore, I have to earn more to afford my apartment.

　　是不是有点启发呢?我们看一下第二题的思路：

　　get an apartment to live in à save some money to deal with …

　　同样的素材还可以应用在托福写作中，就比如如下这道写作真题：

　　Do you agree or disagree with the statement? It is often not a good idea to move to a new city or a new country because you will lose old friends.

　　如果我我们采取否定的态度，我们就可以用对于搬到新的城市会带来诸多不便为由，进行写作，举例时就可以用上租房贵的论据啦：

　　The average cost for a one-bedroom rental apartment in San Francisco is nearly $3,590 a month, according to the website Zumper, which is even higher than that in New York City, the second-most costly market in the United States ($3,340).

　　这样的举例细节是不是很简介，而且论据可信度很高，细节也很完整，达到我们托福写作中对于exemplification的要求。

　　其实周边可以参考的资料有，比如VOA, New York Times, Economists等等，关键是同学们有没有花心思整理属于自己的答题内容呢?相信考官也会更青睐这些极具个性化的语言吧!
