今天我们学习和争吵相关的词汇~

 

1. squabble/'skwɒb(ə)l/

n. (为琐事)大声争吵,发生口角

搭配:squabble over/ about 因为…争吵

e.g. The siblings had a squabble over who would sit in the front seat.

e.g. They were squabbling about what to watch on TV.

 

n. 争吵

e.g. I don't want to get involved in their silly squabbles.

e.g. A squabble broke out among the children.

 

2. bicker/'bɪkə/

v. (为小事)吵架,斗嘴

搭配:bicker over/about something 因为…争吵

e.g. The two colleagues kept bickering over trivial things.

My grandparents bicker all the time, but it is mostly harmless.

补充:trivial 不重要的

 

搭配补充:

bicker like an old couple 像一对老夫老妻一样斗嘴

bicker back and forth 你一句我一句地吵来吵去;反复争执

e.g. They bickered back and forth about whose turn it was to do the dishes.

e.g. Even though they bicker like an old couple, they clearly care about each other.

 

3. grudge /grʌdʒ/

n. 不满;积怨;怨恨

搭配:hold/nurse a grudge against 对…心怀不满

e.g. She has been nursing a grudge against her former boss for years.

e.g. There's no point in holding a grudge — it only hurts you in the end.

 

4. petty /ˈpɛti/

adj. 器量小的;狭隘的

搭配:be petty about对…斤斤计较

e.g. I know it’s petty, but I still feel annoyed that she didn’t invite me.

e.g. She’s always petty about splitting the bill to the exact cent.

 

adj. 无足轻重的; 不重要的

e.g. The meeting degenerated into petty squabbling.

e.g. They always argue over petty things like whose turn it is to wash the dishes.

 

5. tolerant /'tɒl(ə)r(ə)nt/

adj. 包容的;宽容的;忍让的

搭配:be tolerant of 对…忍让

e.g. Try to be more tolerant of others' mistakes.

e.g. He’s not very tolerant when it comes to being interrupted.

 

近义表达:

broad-minded胸襟开阔的;度量大的

e.g. He’s broad-minded and doesn’t get upset over petty things.

forgiving 宽容的;宽宏大量的

e.g. It is important to be forgiving in any long-term relationship.

take the high road 选择大度和宽容的处理方式

e.g. When faced with criticism, it's better to take the high road instead of arguing back.
