本周我们学习和性别相关的词汇：

1. gender expectations

性别期待：Gender expectations refer to the beliefs or social pressures about how men and women are expected to behave, look, or fulfil certain roles in society.

e.g. Society has certain gender expectations of men and women.

e.g.Traditional gender expectations can put people under pressure to behave in certain ways.As a result, they may feel that they have to sacrifice their personal interests to meet society's expectations.

近义补充：gender stereotype 性别刻板印象

e.g.Children should develop their own identities without being restricted by traditional gender stereotypes.

2. breadwinner/'bredwɪnə/

n. 养家糊口的人

e.g. In some families, both parents are breadwinners.

e.g.Traditionally, men were expected to be the breadwinners, while women took care of the household.

近义补充：bring home the bacon 赚钱养家；养家糊口[习语]

e.g.Nowadays, both husbands and wives can bring home the bacon.

其他补充:homemaker  操持家务的人

e.g.Couples should share household responsibilities instead of assuming that women are naturally better homemakers.

3. barrier /'bærɪə/

n.障碍；壁垒；阻碍

搭配：gender barriers 性别壁垒

e.g. Education can help break down gender barriers and promote equal opportunities.

e.g. Traditional gender expectations can create barriers to career advancement.

其他补充：male-dominated; female-dominated 男性/女性主导的

e.g. Men who want to work in female-dominated professions may also face gender stereotypes.

4. gender-neutral /ˈnjuːtrəl/

adj.性别中立的

e.g. Parents should choose gender-neutral toys for their children instead of assuming that boys should play with cars and girls should play with dolls.

e.g.Gender-neutral clothing allows people to express themselves without reinforcing traditional gender roles.
