Earthquake Prediction (真经6 T1P2)  

【Paragraph 3】Volume changes and groundwater movement may be reflected by changes in water levels in wells and also by changes in the chemical composition of groundwater. Radon gas has been observed to increase in wells prior to earthquakes. These increases are perhaps related to the release of radon gas from rocks during the formation of microcracks. The pattern of seismic activity is also significant in the vicinity of a fault area where rupture is imminent. This pattern consists of an initial rise in the number of small events, followed by a decline in foreshocksjust prior to the major earthquake. The decline may represent a temporary increase in rock strength before the newly formed microcracks are filled with water. 

6.According to paragraph 3, which of the following occurs just before an earthquake 

A. The chemical content of groundwater drops.

思路解析

   题目类型：细节题（事实题）

   干扰选项：D（答非所问）

   难易错点： 干扰项的干扰性强  

   正确选项： C  

本题是细节题，问题：just before an earthquake 会发生什么。问题很具体明确，所以这个题思路：利用题干考点定位答案句→选同义选项。本题考点是just before。定位到文章倒数第三行 just prior to。所以答案是前面【见红色画线句】，decline in foreshocks。 前震减少。所以选C，seismic activity 对应 foreshocks。 decrease对应decline。 满足正确选项标准：答案句的同义替换。

这么看其实这题做法很简单，但是缺很多同学都做错，原因是很多同学在审题时候，忽略just这个限定词，只看 before earthquake。所以按照文本顺序会先读到正数第三行的 prior to earthquake，就会先入为主的觉的这里是答案。利用这附近的内容【见蓝色划线句】，就会觉得读到了 D选项【Radon gas+formation of microcracks】也不会仔细检查内容是否正确了。

其实这个D选项内容也是不对的，原文是说 crack导致gas释放，所以使gas变多，不是gas导致crack形成。 但是即使D内容对也不能选这个，因为这里根本就是不答案句，所以这个选项内容是否真确根本不值得花时间检验。追究其根源还是由于审题时没有注意just。

提升方向

首先学生们要有避免答非干扰的意识。 其次理解审题的重要性，一定要认真，尤其是要注意题干中的限定词，比如时间 地点 adj adv甚至时态等，都有可能是考官的考点设置。然后在阅读过程中要仔细且有阅读目的，阅读之后要思考和检查，是否满足问题。无论是问题具体还是宽泛的题，都在锁定答案句或答案范围，最后，大家可以多总结常问问题，并且总结这些问题在原文一般有哪些标志。
