Some people think that it is better to use scientific techniques to grow food, while others think that we should grow food naturally. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

In recent decades, the debate over food farming methods has become increasingly contentious. While some individuals firmly advocate the use of scientific technologies, there are those who staunchly oppose it, insisting that naturally-grown crops are far more beneficial to human well-being and the environment.

Proponents of scientific farming highlight its significant edge in terms of boosting output. High-yield crop varieties, developed through genetic modification, possess remarkable pest and drought resistance, which traditional crops, constrained by their natural genetic traits, rarely have. A prime example is hybrid rice, which has made a substantial contribution to addressing global food security challenges by greatly increasing yield compared to conventional inbred rice. In addition, hydroponics and vertical farming, two groundbreaking scientific methods, allow food to be grown in barren lands, which, in turn, diminishes the need for deforestation to expand farmland,thereby better protecting ecological equilibrium. For densely populated countries, these technologies are not merely convenient but necessary to feed expanding populations without further deforestation or environmental degradation.

This eco-friendly approach is often unattainable in modern intensive farming, which heavily depends on chemical inputs. For consumers increasingly concerned about food safety and environmental impact, natural produce offers a more sustainable and healthy choice.

In my opinion, neither extreme position is advisable. Scientific food production addresses the urgent need for quantity and efficiency, while natural farming ensures quality and environmental sustainability. A balanced approach that harnesses the strengths of both methods—supporting technological innovation alongside responsible organic practices—will best enable humanity to achieve food security without compromising the health of people or the planet.
