watch the movie before reading the book

Movies adapted from novels or biographies are spoilers for book worms. However, the spoiler may actually be a time saver. In addition, without expectations from reading the original books beforehand, the audience are less likely to be disappointed. Therefore, prior to reading the original book, it is preferable for audiences to watch the movie.

It is not unlikely that after days of reading a novel, readers may eventually find they are not intrigued by the book and their time is hence wasted. This is why they should watch movies prior to reading books. Admittedly, movies are time bound. If movie were to show the same length of time as a book, viewers would be in the theater for days, which is just impossible. Essentially, what a movie does is to cram an entire book of careful character development, emotion building and fantastic dialogue into a 2 hour visual narrative. However, such limitation is not as undesirable as is thought. In fact, it enables book-based movies to give a good general idea of what a story is like. Many audiences, 【插入对于具体何种人的补充说明】especially those who are too occupied to go through hundreds of pages, should therefore watch such movies in advance, since it is not only much quicker than reading books, but also more intriguing than reading the abstract of them. More importantly, themovie-goers can know much sooner whether or not to invest more time in books of long length, and if they are aware that further investment of time is not 【习语】worth the candle, their time will hence be saved.

In addition, movies adapted from books are like games of Chinese whisper where nuances are lost in translation. In other words, writers may want to convey a specific mood or emotion which may not be how the movie director interpret. Worse, owing to aforementioned time limitation, directors have to abridge the original book, 【分词作状语】making the movienever completely faithful to the original story. In consequence, after seeing movies, the audience who read the original books may be rather disappointed due to the movie’s lack of details and alterations. On the contrary, watching movies first renders the audience to judge it as a movie in an objective way, that is to say, without reading their original bookbeforehand, those audience would not know how poorly the book-based movies follow its original work. Instead, they simply enjoy the costumes, the music and the cinematography of those book-based movies. Later, attracted by the movie, they may be delighted or even surprised to discover the addition information【同位语补充说明,同时增强与前文的衔接】 – the missed details- from the original book. At this point, isn’t it clear that viewers should watch the movie prior to reading the book?

In conclusion, watching movies ahead of books is a preferable choice, since doing so can avoid disappointment and save time.
