2024.5.26 Speaking Task 1
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In order to be successful in school, students should be highly organized.(2024.5.11
Many college students have part-time jobs. Some prefer to take classes during the day and work at night or on weekends. Others like to work during the day and take night or weekend classes. Which one do you think is better? Please explain why and support your answer using details and examples. [2023.01.10]
Some high schools require students to pass a physical fitness exam in which they are tested on their ability to perform certain physical activities, such as running and swimming, in order to graduate. Do you think this is a good idea? Explain why or why not. Support your opinion with specific details and examples. [2023.02.15]
Sample answer
I do agree with the statement that being organized can greatly contribute to a student's success in school. My first reason would be that currently, we students are required to finish too many tasks and if we fail to keep organized, we are very likely to fail in our exams. But imagine, if we could get our schedule nailed down and our study materials organized, it's like having our own personal cheat code for acing those tests and crushing those deadlines. So , if a student wanna achieve an ideal academic performance in school, keeping things tight and organized is definitely the name of the game(最本质最重要的东西).Also, being highly organized equips students with the flexibility to adapt to unexpected changes or challenges. Whether it's a sudden project extension, a pop quiz(突击小测验), or a rescheduled class, organized students can adjust plans efficiently without feeling stressed out. So, being organized isn't just about staying on schedule—it's about being prepared for anything school life throws at us and helps make sure that we can always keep a positive learning attitude!
Andrew
Claire
Dr. Achebe
In recent years, there has been a significant integration ofadvanced machines and artificial intelligence (AI) into our daily lives and work environments. I would like you to reflect on the following question: Should we extend the same level of politeness and respect to AI and machines as we do to humans? Please provide your reasoning and discuss the potential consequences of adopting such an approach.
Andrew:
AI and robots play an integral role in our lives, assisting us in various tasks and making our lives easier. By treating them with respect, we not only acknowledge their contributions but also reflect positively on our own character. It's a small gesture that upholds our humanity and sets a standard for ethical interaction with technology.
Claire:
I think we don't need to treat AI and robots with the same politeness as we do humans. They are tools designed to assist us, and it's important to maintain that distinction. We should set clear guidelines and boundaries for their use to ensure they serve us effectively without overstepping
I completely agree with Andrew’s view that treating AI and robots with courtesy and kindness would demonstrate our humanity and moral obligation. In addition to this, politeness in human-machine interaction could set a good example for the next generation, especially young kids, and thus reinforce their social etiquette when socializing with others. As AI products, such as ChatGPT, Siri or household robots, become prevalent in our daily lives, young children have easy access to these products. In this case, if adults say “please” and “thank you” when talking to AI, their children are likely to emulate like their parents or caregivers’ behavior, which conditions them to become more polite when interacting with others. On the contrary, shouting at and being abusive to your AI probably deliver kids a poor lesson in communication, whether intentionally or not. For example, after being offered a bottle of water by a robot at the hotel, my father habitually expresses his appreciation. Deeply influenced by my father, I often show others my gratitude whenever receiving help. (171words)
