　　Imagine you need to improve your performance in order to get better grades or higher work payment, which of the following ways would you choose?

　　A. Do more extra work or assignments that are not required

　　B. Participate more actively or contributing your own ideas more frequently in the group discussion

　　如果我们选择B，该如何展开思路呢?我们都知道，工作和学习中遇到问题是在所难免的，尤其是那种自己难以解决的问题。小组讨论的时候，大家可以讨论与工作、学习相关的许多内容，其中，就包括工作中和学习中遇到的问题，把问题提出来，请求大家帮我出主意、想办法，就能够解决问题，最终，就会使一个人的工作表现和学习成绩提高。这样一来，小组讨论相对于选项A，即超额完成任务的优势就凸显出来，做再多的练习题，或者拼命地加班，问题解决不了，进步也就成为水中月。接着，我们就可以梳理出一条段落展开的思路：

　　小组讨论→寻求帮助→解决问题→提高成绩

　　按照这个思路，我们就能写出一个层次的说理部分：

　　To begin with, a group discussion is a valuable opportunity for a person to solve his problems. As is known to all, during the course of doing a job, it is inevitable to encounter the problems that cannot be addressed with one’s own power. Would he be expected to have nothing to do when facing a challenging question? Absolutely not. A worker’s performance does not depend so much on the energy he puts in his work, as on the efficiency to solve his problems. Under such a situation, a group discussion is an excellent place to looking for answers.

　　“通过解决问题来提高成绩”，就是一条使用率非常高的破题思路，利用它可以破解许多题目。我们再看一道题：

　　2017年2月26日托福写作真题

　　Agree or disagree: Rather than helping children with their schoolwork, parents should encourage their children to do their work independently.

　　针对这道题，许多同学的观点是Agree，即独立完成作业是特别有助于孩子的成长。但是，家长的帮助对于孩子也很重要，因为做作业的时候，总会遇见那种自己不会做的题，这个时候只能面对难题无动于衷吗?当然不是。家长的帮助可以使自己有效地解决难题，而且还能学会方法，这对以后的学习大有帮助。刚才写的那段话就可以移植到这个题里面。只需要进行一些词汇的改变：

　　To begin with, parents’ assistance is very necessary for a kid to solve some challenging problems. As is known to all, during the course of doing homework, it is inevitable to encounter the problems that cannot be addressed with one’s own power. Would he be expected to have nothing to do when facing a challenging question? Absolutely not. A student’s academic performance does not depend so much on the energy he puts in his assignments, as on the efficiency to solve his problems. Under such a situation, his mother’s help is very crucial for him to improve his grades.

　　A. Tutors who can provide individual instructions for students who have difficulty in study

　　B. The encouragement from family and friends

　　C. High quality education in high school

　　如果我们选择A，就可以用这条思路进行展开，而且选项A里的students who have difficulty in study，也会提示我们解决问题是提高学习成绩重要途径。我们只需要把前面题目中的group discussion换成tutors，而且一位私人教师是对于同学们解决问题帮助更大，因为他可以提出更具针对性的解决办法，同时选项B的缺陷也会通过对比而显现，家人和朋友的鼓励至多是一种精神动力，并不能对症下药;选项C中，中学时候的成绩再优秀，和大学教育也会有鸿沟。比如，大学里，有的同学写专业论文的时候出现问题了，中学里学的基本概念就起不到作用了。还是有一位关系密切的教师更有效，他能够提出专业的、有效的指导。

　　There are two kinds of classes in the school: small class with fewer students (professors may remember all students’ names); and big class with more students. Which one do you prefer?

　　通过之前的分析，小班课的优势应该一目了然，它的作用就相当于一位私人教师，也相当于小组讨论，可以高效地，针对性地帮助学生解决问题。

　　在准备托福写作的过程中，考生们面临的一大难题就是没有思路，面对一道题目不知道说什么。老师们通常会启发大家，关注调动生活里的点点滴滴，创作是来源于生活的。除此之外，对于题目的分析和串联也是一项重要工作，题目的联系可以是纵向的，即相同话题的题目之间可以联系，比如教育类的题目里，就可以用一些思路串联起来;也可以是横向的，即属于不同话题的题目也可以串联，比如教育类和家庭类，家庭类的题目有那种讨论父母教育的题目，父母教育和老师的教育会有区别吗?你可能会说，当然有区别啊，我的作业题我妈妈都看不懂。然而，在我们写托福作文的时候，这种区别是可以忽略不计的。你可以说我的妈妈就是一位大学老师，对我的学习帮助很大。托福写作是一种自由度比较高的写作，即在紧扣题目，言之成理的范围内大家可以自由地发挥。考官们出题的意图就是想看看考生们能不能用英文讲出一番道理来，至于故事的真实性他们不是很在意。
